Meeting Developmental Milestones Through Structured and Play-based Learning

Creative & Imaginative Play

Arts and creative play are readily available for the children throughout the day as they learn to express their individual ideas and feelings with art materials such as paint, playdough, markers, crayons, glue and collage materials. The use of dress ups and dramatic play areas are also used as they provide the opportunity for role play where the children learn how to collaborate and compromise with others, recognise and respond to others' feelings, share, show affection, resolve conflicts, and adhere to the rules.

Music & Mindfulness

Music and mindfulness is practised daily to support children to recognise their emotions and teach self-regulation. The earlier mindfulness is practised with young children the greater the opportunity to develop their resilience and ability to embed mindfulness into their everyday life.

Munch & Move

Munch & Move is a NSW Health initiative that supports the healthy development of children birth to 5 years by promoting physical activity, healthy eating and reduced small screen time. At preschool this is done by encouraging healthy drinks, snacks and meal choices and teaching the fundamental movement skills during structured activities

Language

The Preschool participates in the Early Learning Languages Australia ELLA program which is is a digital, play-based language learning program for preschool children. This Australian Government initiative inspires children by driving a genuine interest in a new language and culture. This year the children are learning Spanish while engaging in songs, dances, games and group times

Literacy & Numeracy

The Preschool create opportunities for children to learn and build on their literacy and numeracy skills catered to their individual abilities. This is achieved during play-based learning through the use of puzzles, board games, writing and drawing activities as well as through structured one on one and group time experiences.

Outside Play

The Preschool provides daily outdoor opportunities for the children to explore, discover and appreciate the natural world, as well as be active, strengthen fine and gross motor movement skills, test physical limits and get messy.
